THE TONGARIRO CROSSING

Hiking as you will only experience in New Zealand.

Your will 17km/10 mile climb will take you to the Red Crater (1886m / 6184ft) passing between active volcanoes - Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe, before descending via the Emerald and Blue Lakes to Ketetahi Hot Springs and car park, Allow 8 hours for the walk.

Turangi is the closest town, and only 15 minutes to the Crossing start, you can leave your car at Creel Lodge, where a local shuttle will pick you up from Creels front gate, and drop you back – the cost is $NZ35.
